If you happen to be in the right lighting, and you turn just quick enough, you might catch a glimpse of your Shimmer. Almost everyone has one, in that spot they can’t quite reach, just there behind you and to the left. Everyone’s is a little different, but most appear kind of like a glimmering mirage.
They go everywhere we go, sleeping with us in our beds, standing over our shoulders while we’re at work, or tucking in our kids, or making love. Always out of the way, but almost close enough to breath on your neck.
Most are harmless, as long as you don’t ask too many questions or try to capture them on film or go looking for old dusty books in the witchcraft or quantum physics sections of your local library.
Whatever you do, don’t think about them too much. The more you think about it, the more real they become… which is why there are so many missing people all over the world.
