Now, try to hear me out on this…
Don’t get offended yet, because I really think this matters.
That heavy tome you tote with leather handles
Golden pages marked with pens and highlighters
You tell yourself it has all of the answers
Gaps and inconsistencies you gloss right over
Applying details you prefer and discarding others
Verses known by heart, their meaning doesn’t matter
Historical inaccuracies and biased translators
The story’s buried by the rules you can’t live under
Passing disgrace on some sinners while exalting others
Worshiping your false gods and mortal forefathers
Forgetting everything the old prophets had taught us
You see, that worn and tattered object is a love letter.
A story truly more important now than ever
A way of processing our shared experience
A narrative about our place in the universe
A traveled book of tales about who we really are
A tool for coping with the darkness everywhere
A sword that cuts us deep and helps become better
It’s our most powerful connection to the creator:
showing us the way, the truth, and the life.
I guess my point is this:
It’s not the little things that matter
Rather, our reaction to the mirror it holds up
The most important thing is our devotion to becoming love, then sharing it with others.
So don’t worship the book, instead, turn to the Creator.
